This weekend was all about the best and brightest in Hollywood animation.
At Saturday's 37th Annual Annie Awards, Pixar's Up, the little gem that's also in the running for top honors at this year's Academy Awards, was named Best Animated Film and Best Directing in a Feature. The Oscar contender stole the prize from hits such as Coraline, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Secret of Kells.
Elsewhere in the animated realm, Walt Disney Studios knocked out a majority of its competition, taking home a total of six Annies, including three for the hand-drawn critical favorite, The Princess and the Frog, while Dreamworks Studios garnered five Annies for their numerous made for TV productions.

| Critical Darling ‘Ugly Betty’ Is Canceled |

“Ugly Betty,” the ABC series that won a Golden Globe award for best comedy series in its first season in 2006-7 but whose audience has fallen by half since then, will end its prime-time run this spring, the network and the show’s producers announced Wednesday.
ABC and the producers, who include the actress Salma Hayek and Ben Silverman, the former NBC programming chief, said: “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

HOLLYWOOD, CA, January 12, 2010 – Harrison Ford, Paul McCartney, Olivia Wilde and Reese Witherspoon have been set as presenters at “The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards” on Sunday, January 17. The show, hosted by Ricky Gervais, will be broadcast live coast to coast on NBC (5 to 8 pm PT, 8 to 11 pm ET) from The Beverly Hilton.
They join previously announced presenters Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Josh Brolin, Gerard Butler, Cher, Chace Crawford, Cameron Diaz, Colin Farrell, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Garner, Matthew Fox, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Neil Patrick Harris, Nicole Kidman, Taylor Lautner, Sophia Loren, Amy Poehler, Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Kiefer Sutherland, Kate Winslet and Sam Worthington.
Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio will present the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Award to Martin Scorsese for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.”
“The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards” will be seen in more than 160 countries worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements.
The special will be produced by dick clark productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Philip Berk is President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Orly Adelson, president of dick clark productions, and Barry Adelman will executive produce the special. Chris Donovan is the director and Bob Bardo is the executive in charge of production.

Группа The Animals с Эриком Бёрдоном - третья после The Beatles и The Rolling Stones участница глобального «британского вторжения». The Animals начинали в блюзовой и R&B манере. Они собрались в Ньюкасле в 1963 году, свое название получили с легкой руки местной прессы, вскоре после первых выступлений окрестившей их «животными». Спустя год группа перебралась в Лондон, тогда же был подписан с Columbia Records (филиал EMI) и выпущен дебютный сингл Baby Let Me Take You Home. Ну а мировую славу ей принесла собственная версия народной песни House of the Rising Sun (Дом восходящего солнца), которая стала мега-хитом. Главная заслуга в этом принадлежала Эрику Бёрдону и клавишнику Алану Прайсу – автору необычной аранжировки. Однако их разногласия привели к распаду The Animals в 1966 году. На вершине успеха группа продержалась всего два года. Бёрдон начал делать сольную карьеру, перебрался в США. Несколько раз группа ненадолго воссоединялась. Выступление в Доме музыки – возвращение к «золотому веку» британского ритм-энд-блюза.
